Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program
About the Program
The Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program is designed to promote healthy pregnancies, increase birth weights, provide nutrition information, offer prenatal classes, and post-partum services. Our CPNP supports and funds community groups to develop or enhance programs for pregnant women.
Through a community development approach, the CPNP aims to reduce the incidence of unhealthy birth weights, improve the health of both infants and mothers and support breastfeeding. Our programs may include nutrition counselling, breastfeeding education and support, baby food making, food supports and vouchers, infant massage, mom’s fitness, counselling in prenatal health and lifestyle and education and support on infant care and child development.
The CPNP provides help to improve the health of pregnant women, new mothers and their babies, who face challenges that put their health at risk, such as:
- Poverty
- Teen Pregnancy
- Social and geographical isolation
- Substance Abuse
- Family Violence
